About the Brand
Allan James, originally from the Big Island, opened Hawaiian Heritage in 1986. The label manufactured men’s and women’s aloha wear on Oahu, at a studio in Kalihi. The fabric used in the garments were designed with elements of Hawaiian culture - notably native plants, leis, and Hawaiian quilts. In particular, Allan created patterns and imagery reminiscent of his Allan's childhood. His design often contained this signature and his mu'umu'u contain details evoking late-19th-century styles with puffed sleeves, sleeve bands, yokes, and ruffles.
